Last week, I made a lovely purse as a commission (so you won’t see it on my Etsy site). I turned it over to the buyer, but I got some pics first and am including them below!

You can’t see it here, but the purse is lined with a light purple. The handles are faux bamboo. It’s also got an inner pocket for all those things a girl might not want free-floating in her purse. It’s going to be a Christmas gift and I really hope the recipient likes it. I developed the pattern myself based on a picture.

What I’m working on right now: I’m working on refurbishing a quilt. It’s a tricky business, I have to replace some of the squares. And others I just have to sew down from the inside…that is, I put a piece of unbleached muslin under them and I tack them down onto it. I’ll do this for the squares (9 patch) which don’t have more than one patch with a problem and the problem’s not very big.

So far I’ve only done the tacking down, haven’t replaced any squares yet. I’m starting in my comfort zone.

Quilt repair is a delicate process, after all. This quilt is about 30 years old and the fabric is frayed. While repairing it, I’ve realized once again why I believe in sewing with double thread, not a single strand–sometimes the strand was at fault, not the fraying.

This can be a horribly boring process, however, so I’m amusing myself by watching Family Guy. What I really should do (now that this kind of this is becoming a side-business for me) is borrow books on tape/cd from the local library. I can get it my reading and still get work done.

Oooh…or maybe the iTunes business school thing Nina talked about at Queercents. I don’t have an iPod yet but I could use my computer to listen to them.

I’ve gotten pictures of my favorite iPod case so far and uploaded to them to Etsy. I love it because it’s the first mixed-media design. That is, it incorporates beading, embroidery (a little) and ribbon!

I saw something similar in a book and when I got the fabric, I realized I had all the right materials. I even made two. I would have made more, but I didn’t think they’d all sell and didn’t know what I’d do with them all. So very shiny, pretty, happy!  (Listing)

Any recommendations for sites which post beading patterns and the like? I’m still new to the whole beading thing and am trying to get more ideas in my head. After seeing hundreds of quilt blocks, I can come up with my own. Beading is so much more reflective of the real world (flowers and such) but it’s still hard for me.
